In this session, Simon will identify common learning disabilities and how you, as a clinician, can engage these patients and improve their care, drawing on his own experience in this area.

Most optical practices have had to revise or even scrap certain aspects of their previously well-established patient journey to remain compliant with COVID regulations. But how do practices do this and still manage to deliver a unique and personalised experience that makes their patients feel valued from the moment they step through the door? In this highly interactive workshop, Katie will facilitate a member knowledge sharing session using a well-known model of customer satisfaction to enable practices to refine or rework aspects of their customer journey to deliver not only the basics and but also the WOWs to ensure patients have a memorable experience even in these strange times. This workshop is suitable for all members of the practice team.

Many independent optometrists are struggling with the
difficult decision whether to continue offering NHS care. A conundrum that many
practices in the UK are grappling with as they consider how to remain
financially viable in the context of a pandemic. Thanks to new technology, the
standard of eye care independents can offer is now better than ever. The latest
equipment uses the same advanced technology patients would find in a hospital.
Unfortunately, the NHS funding received simply doesn’t cover the cost of
providing these advanced screening techniques.
SightCare Coach David Samuel will be joined by 2 independent practice owners and Optometrists who will discuss why and how they made the shift to only providing private eye care and explaining their new way of working.

This session will look at the role of support staff in the triage process in optical practice. We will review what to do when someone presents at the practice or phones in with an eye problem. By recognising the ‘red flag’ signs staff will be better prepared to respond in an appropriate way to give the patient the best chance of receiving the correct information and treatment in a timely manner. This session is vital to anyone who is patient facing in optical practice.
